‘ra’ sabdam kurvatas trasto dadami bhaktim uttamam
‘dha’ sabdam kurvatah pascat yami sravana lobhatah
Lord Sri Krishna proclaims:”The moment I hear the sound ‘Ra’ from anyone’s lips, I grant them My supreme prema-bhakti. But the next moment when I hear the sound ‘dha’, I completely lose Myself and become intoxicated in Radha-nama. Because of My great longing to hear the name of My Beloved, I run after the devotees who chant Radha-nama.”
Srimati Radharani is the personification of the Hladini or pleasure potency of the Supreme Personality of Godhead, Sri Krishna. Even though they are in truth one entity, for the purpose of performing sweet enchanting pastimes, they became two, and in this, they way relish transcendental rasa. Being the topmost amongst all the associates of Krishna, she is exceedingly dear to him and controls him completely with her unalloyed ocean of pure love. Desiring to give him the topmost pleasure in the mellows of conjugal love, she exhibits the various different moods in madhurya rasa, which make their pastimes really relishable for Shyamsundar. Being enchanted by her, Sri Vrajendranandan Shyamsundar eagerly desires to meet her in the grooves of Vrindavan, under the kadamba trees and at the banks of the Yamuna river, in order to perform various playful pastimes with her.
In the Gaudiya Vaishnava Sampradaya coming down from Sri Chaitanya Mahaprabhu, all the Acharyas have taken complete shelter of the lotus feet of Srimati Radhika, considering her to be their very life and soul. Following in the same mood, Srila Bhakti Siddhanta Saraswati Thakur once beautifully explained how we are actually aspiring to become the maidservants of Srimati Radhika. While once visiting Sri Radha Kund with his disciples, they saw a king come with his entire entourage and was performing parikrama of Radha Kund and Shyam Kund. Seeing this, the disciples of Srila Bhakti Siddhanta pointed this out to him, saying that the King must have great devotion for Srimati Radhika and Krishna. Srila Bhakti Siddhanta acknowledged his devotion but pointed out that the devotion that the Gaudiya Vaishnavas have is very different from that of the King. The King is a devotee of Sri Krishna and pays respect to Srimati Radhika because she has something to do with him, but we are the maidservants of Srimati Radhika and we respect Krishna because he has something to do with Srimati Radhika. In this way, he explained how we are actually praying for the service to the lotus feet of Srimati Radhika and how she is our worshipable goddess. Therefore, we take shelter of the lotus feet of Srimati Radhika, pray for her to bestow her mercy upon us and grant us service to her divine lotus feet.
