All glories to Srila Bhakti Siddhanta Saraswati Thakur Prabhupad, the spiritual master of his divine grace A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Srila Prabhupad and the founder of the Gaudiya Math, who blessed the Krishna Panchami tithi in the month of Paush by choosing this day to bring his pastimes in this world to a close. Well known among the vaishnavas as Simha Guru, or lion Guru, he fearlessly cut to pieces all the Rupanuga viruddha apa-siddhanta, all the philosophies which were not in line with the teachings of Srila Rupa goswami, and powerfully taught and preached suddha bhakti, or pure devotion for the lotus feet of Sachinandan Gaurahari and Radha Shyamsundar.
Along with opening 64 temples throughout India, where the devotees were trained in the science of Krishna Consciousness, he also published numerous books of his father Srila Bhakti Vinod thakur and the previous acharyas headed by Rupa, Raghunath and others. Being fully situated on the transcendental platform and constantly immersed in the eternal pastimes of the Lord, he started a daily newspaper entitled Nadia Prakash and reasoned that if there can be numerous newspapers describing the events of this material creation, which is just a tiny fraction of the entire cosmos, than what can be said by all that happens in the transcendental realm, which is unlimited and where sweet blissful pastimes are eternally being performed by the Lord. If one is to contemplate on this subject matter, we can easily understand that only a person coming from that abode of the Lord would be capable of writing a newspaper about the activities taking place over there.
Srila Bhakti Siddhanta was also very expert at utilising the latest facilities for pushing forward the mission of Mahaprabhu. In order to preach to the elite, he made use of fancy vehicles and would dress in formal clothing, so that the people would respect him and attentively listen to his message. He had indeed preached to many high government officials and was highly respected in all materially and spiritually learned assemblies. As such, many of his disciples were highly learned people, including professors, who took to the line of bhakti and thus perfected their lives. In this way, he perfectly portrayed how to use everything in Krishna’s service, which has been described by Srila Rupa Goswami as Yukta Vairagya.
Along with all these great feats, one of his biggest blessing was in the form of his dear disciples Srila A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupad, who, just to fulfil the hearts desire of his spiritual master, travelled to the west and preached the path of Bhakti. Having established the International Society for Krishna Consciousness, Srila Prabhupad, with the blessings of his spiritual master, brought the holy names to the farthest corner of the world so that today the prophecy of Sri Chaitanya Mahaprabhu has come true, for in every town and village the holy names of the Lord can be heard. It was only due to the instructions and blessings of Srila Bhakti Siddhanta Saraswati Thakur that we are able to be practising Krishna Consciousness.
Despite having performed so many wondrous tasks, the humility of Srila Bhakti Siddhanta is a true sign of a Vaishnava of the highest order. Despite being a Sanyasi, situated in the highest order of life, he would never refer to himself as Swami, rather he would always introduce himself as Varshabhanavi devi dayita das, the name given to him by his spiritual master Srila Gaur Kishor das Babaji Maharaj, and whenever his disciples or other people would offer him their respectful obeisances, he would reply by saying ‘Daso aham’, meaning ‘ I am the servant’, clearly portraying his deep humility. Yet, if one were to speak against the philosophy of Sri Chaitanya dev, he would immediately smash all apa-siddhantas, not tolerating a single word which was not in line with the teachings of Mahaprabhu.
Eternally residing in Sri Golok Vrindavan and serving the lotus feet of Sri Sri Radha Madhav in the form of Nayan-Mani Manjari, Srila Bhakti Siddhanta Saraswati Thakur Prabhupad appeared in this world for the benefit of us fallen conditioned souls, and therefore, on his holy disappearance day we offer our hearts at his lotus feet and pray for his mercy. The grandfather is always more loving and affectionate than even the father, and therefore, being his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, we pray for him to shower his affection upon us and grant us with firm faith in the lotus feet of Guru, Gauranga and Krishna.
