yajanti hi su-medhasaḥ
In the age of Kali, intelligent persons perform congregational chanting to worship the incarnation of Godhead who constantly sings the names of Krishna. Although His complexion is not blackish, He is Krishna Himself. He is accompanied by His associates, servants, weapons and confidential companions.
All glories to Sri Gauranga, the most munificent Lord who appeared in this dark age of Kali to deliver the conditioned soul and who is none other than Sri Krishna himself, the Supreme Personality of Godhead. Although he is Krishna, yet he is akrishna, not black, for he has accepted the mood and lustre of Srimati Radhika, and has thus appeared with a lustrous golden complexion, stealing the hearts of one and all. In his this hidden avatar, he acts as a devotee of Krishna and therefore constantly calls out his own Holy Names. He is always surrounded by his associates like Nityananda Prabhu, Advaita Acharya and others, and is served by Srivas Pandit and other Gaur Parishads. Unlike his other incarnations, he does not carry any weapons to annihilate the miscreants, but rather the Hare Krishna Mahamantra is his weapon for delivering the fallen souls of Kali, which he does, not by killing them, but rather by transforming their hearts and bestowing upon them the rare treasure of Krishna Prem. While performing his various pastimes, he is always accompanied by his various intimate assocaites like Sri Gadadhar Pandit, Sri Swaroop Damodar, Sri Ramananda Ray and others. The prime way of worshipping and attracting the mercy of Sri Chaitanya Maharapbhu is by engaging is Sri Krishna Naam Sankirtan Yajna, the Yuga dharma for this age. It has been mentioned in this verse that those who are intelligent, sumedhasah, su meaning good and medha meaning intelligence, will surely worship Sri Sachinandan Gaurahari, for he is the Supreme Lord himself, having descended just to shower his causeless mercy upon the living entities and reclaim them from this dark dungeon of material world. Srila Bhakti Vinod Thakur has in some places mentioned the same verse with a slight change. He has mentioned ‘bhajami Kali pavanah’ in the last part of the verse, meaning that I take shelter of that Sri Sachinanda Gaurahari, who is constantly chanting the Names of Krishna and although he is Krishna himself, he has appeared with a golden complexion.
Evaluating our own situation we can know whether we are sumedhasah, intelligent, or not, for it has been clearly mentioned in the shastras that a person who has good intelligence is sure to take shelter of Sri Krishna Chaitanya. Let us all, therefore, take shelter at the Lotus feet of Gaurahari and pray to be a part of his Gaura Parivar, family of the followers of Gauranga, thus making our lives successful.
