Serving the Supreme Personality of Godhead in pure love is the ultimate goal of all spiritual activities. Being freed from the material world, all the devotees aspire to join the Lord in his transcendental pastimes in the eternal abode of Goloka Vrindavan, where they can render service to Sri Krishna under the direction of the dear associates whose mood they strive to follow. The beauty of the Krishna consciousness movement is that the means is the same as the goal. The means to achieve the service of Sri Krishna in the transcendental realm is to engage oneself completely in his service in ones present condition. The only difference is that the service performed here is the practice and the service performed there is the perfected form of service.
Although each and every moment of one’s life ought to be utilized in the service of the Lord, there are special festivals that inspire us to perform some additional services for the pleasure of the Lord. Two such wonderful festivals are coming in the month of February, namely Vasant Panchami and Sri Nityananda Trayodashi.
The auspicious day of Vasant Panchami, falling on the 16th of February, marks the beginning of the spring season and is the first day of the blissful festival of Holi in Vraja. The festival of colors travels through the various villages of Vraja for fourty days, the last five days of which are celebrated in Vrindavan. This glorious festival is also the appearance day of Sri Pundarik Vidyanidhi, Sri Raghunandana Thakur, Sri Raghunath Das Goswami and Srimati Vishnupriya devi and the disappearance day of Srila Vishwanath chakravarti Thakur. On this day, the Lords are dressed in yellow garments, the altars are decorated with yellow flowers and special yellow colored preparations are offered to the Lord.
Sri Nityananda Trayodashi follows shortly after, on the 25th, and is the holy appearance day of Adi Guru Sri Nityananda Prabhu, the elder brother of Sri Sachinandan Gaurahari and the most merciful Lord who bestows love of Godhead on one and all without considering ones qualification and disqualification. Appearing in Ekachakra dham, he inundated the entire world with love of Godhead.
These special festivals offer us an opportunity to perform services for the pleasure of the Lord and thus gain their blessings. We therefore invite all the devotees to join us in Iskcon Vrindavan for these festivals and perform service in any capacity possible.
