All glories to Srila Abhiram thakur, one of the dwadash gopals and a dear associate of Sri Nityananda Prabhu and Sri Gaurahari, who brought an end to his numerous inconceivably wonderful pastimes in this world to an end on this auspicious day of Krishna saptami in the month of Vaishakh. Srila Abhiram Thakur is none other than Sridam sakha in Golok Vrindavan and the pastime of him becoming Abhiram thakur is truly glorious. Once, Sri Krishna and Balaram were playing hide and seek with the cowherd boys in the caves of Govardhan. Sridam sakha hid in one of the caves and was waiting for someone to find him, but in the mean time the Lord descended on this earth as Sri Chaitanya Mahaprabhu along with his associates to deliver the fallen souls of Kali yuga, while Sridam was waiting there the whole time. Once, Sri Chaitanya Mahaprabhu was sitting with his associates and he started remembering his dear friend Sridam and started crying. He requested Nityananda Prabhu to please go to Govardhan and bring their dear friend Sridam. Sri Nityananda Prabhu then went to Govardhan and being all-knowing went near the cave where Sridam was hiding and started calling out his name. Hearing his name being called, Sridam came out and seeing Nityananda Prabhu inquired about who he was. Nityananda Prabhu told him that he was Balaram and that Krishna had appeared and Chaitanya Mahaprabhu in Nawadwip and that he was crying for him and wanted him to come there. Sridam was not convinced and told Nityananda Prabhu that he would have to prove that he is none other than Balaram. He then told Nityananda Prabhu that if he really is Balaram he should be able to catch him and so he started running around Govardhan. After doing 4 Govardhan Parikramas, he looked behind to see where Nityananda Prabhu was and saw that he was right behind him. Accepting that he was actually Lord Balaram, he accepted to go with him to Nawadwip. There he met Mahaprabhu. They both embraced each other and felt great ecstatic love.
Mahaprabhu then asked him to join in the pastimes but Sridam refused to go into the womb of a mother. Mahaprabhu then told him that he would not need to go into the womb of a mother and therefore, he named him Abhiram thakur and made him the size of the humans in the Kali Yuga, as he was from Dwapar Yuga and much taller than everyone else. Abhiram thakur then joined the Lords pastimes and was very dear to Nityananda Prabhu. He had a famous whip named ‘Jayamangal’ which would grant Krishna prema to anyone whom Abhiram thakur would whip with it. Once, he had a dream in which Krishna came to him and told him to excavate him from the earth where he was buried, and thus Abhiram thakur started worshipping Gopinath in Khanakula Krishnanagar, where he was residing.
After performing other such amazing pastimes, Abhiram thakur, also known as Ramdas, brought his pastimes to a close on this auspicious day. On this blessed day, we pray that may Abhiram thakur prabhu bless us all with Krishna prema.
