“I bow down to the Supreme Lord Nityananda Prabhu, who is the awarder of the highest joy to all, the bestower of the holy name and the crest jewel of all paramahamsa mendicants.”

All glories to Prabhu Nityananda, the very embodiment of mercy and compassion towards all the fallen conditioned souls. He is Lord Balaram himself, having appeared now in Ekachakra dham as the son of Hadai Pandit and Padmavati devi. Being the very first expansion of the Supreme Personality of Godhead Sri Krishna, he is source of Sankarshan and the other Vishnumurtis in the Vaikuntha Planets, and of Karanodakshayi Vishnu, from the pores of whose transcendental body innumerable universe spring forth; Garbodhakshayi Vishnu, who lies in the Garbodhaka Ocean and from whose navel the lotus flower, upon which Lord Brahma is situated, blooms; Kshirodakshayi Vishnu, the paramatma within everyone’s heart, and Sri Ananta Shesha, who is the bedstead of Vishnu and carries all the universes upon his hoods. It is mentioned in the Sri Chaitanya Charitamrita (Adi.1.7):

sankarsanah karana-toya-shayi
garbhoda-shayi cha payobdhi-shayi
sheshash cha yasyamsha-kalah sa nitya-
nandakhya-ramah sharanam mamastu

“May Sri Nityananda Rama be the object of my constant remembrance. Sankarshana, Shesha Naga and the Vishnus who lie on the Karana Ocean [Maha-Vishnu], Garbha Ocean [Garbodakashayi Vishnu] and ocean of milk [Kshirodakashayi Vishnu] are His plenary portions and the portion of His plenary portions.”

Lord Balaram, who is eternally engaged in serving Sri Krishna by expanding into all Sri Krishna’s personal paraphernalia, has now come as Nityananda Prabhu, Balaram hoilo Nitai, and is serving Sri Gaurasundara in the same way. By assisting Sri Sachinandan in his mission of spreading the holy names of the Lord throughout the universe, he delivered countless jivas from the clutches of Maya and instilled within them pure transcendental love for Gaurahari. Moved by his own compassionate nature, he bestowed his mercy upon Jagai and Madhai and gave Krishna prem to them, having freed them from their sinful natures. His causeless mercy is the only hope that we, the fallen conditioned souls of this age who are more sinful than Jagai and Madhai, have for attaining their ultimate welfare, for he is Adi Guru, the mercy potency of the Lord, coming to us in the form of our Sri Guru. This is was very beautifully depicted in the famous story of Panihati chidadahi, when Raghunath das goswami was blessed by Sri Nityananda Prabhu, after which he was able to very soon attain the lotus feet of Sri Chaitanya Mahaprabhu. Despite his numerous efforts to go to Sriman Mahaprabhu  before receiving the mercy of Nitai, he was unable to do so and therefore Nityananda Prabhu called him a thief trying to directly reach Mahaprabhu, who was actually his property, as the Lord is indeed completely controlled by and the property of his devotees, amongst whom Sri Nityananda Prabhu is certainly the foremost. One must therefore first approach Nitai in order to go to Mahaprabhu and Sri Radha Krishna. Srila Narottam das thakur has written,

heno nitāi bine bhāi, rādhā-kṛṣṇa pāite nāi
dṛḍha kori’ dharo nitāir pāy

Unless one takes shelter under the shade of the lotus feet of Lord Nityananda, it will be very difficult for him to approach Radha-Krsna. If one actually wants to enter into the dancing party of Radha-Krsna, he must firmly catch hold of the lotus feet of Lord Nityananda.

But look at the mercy of Avadhut Shiromani Sri Nityananda Prabhu, who dances madly in Sri Sachinandan Gaurahari’s Sankirtan movement, attracting the hearts and minds of all the vaishnavas. He has opened a market place of the holy names of the Lord, where he is freely distributing the most auspicious and rasa laden names of the Lord, just by seeing the eagerness of the person.

boro sukher khabor gāi
surabhi-kuñjete nāmer hāṭ khule’che (khoda nitāi)

I am singing news of great happy tidings. Lord Nityananda Himself has opened a market-place of the Holy Name in Surabhi-Kunja.

We therefore pray to the dust of the lotus feet of Sri Nityananda Prabhu to please bestow mercy upon us all. We have no hope but the mercy of Nitai, who does not consider one’s shortcomings, but freely distributes love of Godhead to one and all. May he be pleased with us and glance upon us with mercy and compassion, blessing us with deep affection for the lotus feet of Sri Gaurasundar and Sri Sri Radha Shyamsundar.
