Glories of Sri Chaitanya Mahaprabhu

All glories to Sri Sacinandana Gaurahari, the most magnanimous Lord who appeared in this age of Kali to deliver all the fallen conditioned souls, from the cycle of repeated birth and death, by freely distributing the holy names. He not only established the yuga dharma of harinama-sankirtana but gave the rare jewel of unnata-ujjvala-rasa, the bright shining mellow of servitude to the divine couple Sri Sri Radha-Syamasundara. This can be achieved by following the footsteps of the maidservants of Srimati Radharani in Vrajabhumi and had not been given since a very very long time. In the Caitanya-caritamrita (Adi-lila 3.4), the following prayer has been given in glorification of Sri Sacinandana,

anarpita-carīṁ cirāt karuṇayāvatīrṇaḥ kalau

samarpayitum unnatojjvala-rasāṁ sva-bhakti-śriyam

hariḥ puraṭa-sundara-dyuti-kadamba-sandīpitaḥ

sadā hṛdaya-kandare sphuratu vaḥ śacī-nandanaḥ

“May that Lord who is known as the son of Śrīmatī Śacīdevī be transcendentally situated in the innermost core of your heart. Resplendent with the radiance of molten gold, He has descended in the Age of Kali by His causeless mercy to bestow what no incarnation has ever offered before: the most elevated mellow of devotional service, the mellow of conjugal love.”

Although he is the Supreme Personality of Godhead, full of all six opulences, the one and only Lord and master of the entire universe, he appeared as a devotee in order to demonstrate how one should follow the path of bhakti. The appearance of Sri Krsna himself as Sri Sacinandana Gaurahari has been mentioned in Srimad-Bhagavatam, 11.5.32

yajanti hi su-medhasah

In the age of Kali, intelligent persons perform congregational chanting to worship the incarnation of Godhead who constantly sings the names of Krsna. Although His complexion is not blackish, He is Krsna Himself. He is accompanied by His associates, servants, weapons and confidential companions.

And in the Mahabharata,

suvarna-varno hemango
varangas candanangadi
sannyasa-krc chamah santo
nistha-santi-parayanah

The Lord has a golden complexion. Indeed, His entire body, which is very nicely constituted, is like molten gold. Sandalwood pulp is smeared all over His body. He will take the fourth order of spiritual life (sannyasa) and will be very self-controlled. He will be distinguished from mayavadi sannyasis in that He will be fixed in devotional service and will spread the sankirtana movement.”

Although Sri Caitanya Mahaprabhu is Krishna himself, He appeared with the complexion and mood of Srimati Radhika and is therefore even more magnanimous and compassionate. It is by His mercy alone that one can approach the transcendental loving affairs of the fair and dark-complexioned divine couple of Vrajabhumi. Sri Caitanya-caritamrta (Adi 1.5) describes how Sri Caitanya Mahaprabhu is the combined form of Sri Sri Radha Syamasundara.

rādhā kṛṣṇa-praṇaya-vikṛtir hlādinī śaktir asmād
ekātmānāv api bhuvi purā deha-bhedaṁ gatau tau
caitanyākhyaṁ prakaṭam adhunā tad-dvayaṁ caikyam āptaṁ
rādhā-bhāva-dyuti-suvalitaṁ naumi kṛṣṇa-svarūpam

The loving affairs of Śrī Rādhā and Kṛṣṇa are transcendental manifestations of the Lord’s internal pleasure-giving potency. Although Rādhā and Kṛṣṇa are one in Their identity, previously They separated Themselves. Now these two transcendental identities have again united, in the form of Śrī Kṛṣṇa Caitanya. I bow down to Him, who has manifested Himself with the sentiment and complexion of Śrīmatī Rādhārāṇī although He is Kṛṣṇa Himself.

Therefore, bowing down at his lotus feet, we beg for his causeless mercy, so that we may be able to overcome all obstacles in the form of lust, anger, greed, attachment, madness and false ego and pursue the goal of attaining the service of his lotus feet. Indeed, all difficulties are immediately vanquished by remembering Sri Caitanya Mahaprabhu. As mentioned in Sri Caitanya-caritamrta (Adi-lila 14.1):

kathañcana smṛte yasmin

duṣkaraṁ sukaraṁ bhavet

vismṛte viparītaṁ syāt

śrī-caitanyaṁ namāmi tam

Things that are very difficult to do become easy to execute if one somehow or other simply remembers Lord Caitanya Mahāprabhu. But if one does not remember Him, even easy things become very difficult. To this Lord Caitanya Mahāprabhu I offer my respectful obeisances.

With Gaura Purnima fast approaching, let us all immerse ourselves in the ocean of the nectarean pastimes of Sri Gaurahari, which are ever blissful and the giver of all auspiciousness. Let us remember his names, form, pastimes, dear associates and pastime places, all of which are transcendental and ever fresh. May Sri Gauranga-sundara bestow his mercy upon us all! May we be forever engaged in the service of his lotus feet! And May we eternally sing his transcendental glories! Jai Sri Sacinandana Gaurahari!

Obeisances unto Sri Caitanya-candra, the giver of the mellow of the highest love of Godhead, who is the embodiment of blissful pastimes, and who is so beautiful, having a dazzling luster, like gold.
