The Lord performs innumerable sweet and enchanting pastimes with His eternal associates, and many of these pastimes are remembered and beautifully celebrated by the Lord’s devotees in the temple. In Iskcon Vrindavan also, we celebrate numerous festivals like Janmashtami, Radhashtami, Govardhan Puja and Jhulan Yatra, but it would be no exaggeration to say that one of the most wonderful, extraordinary and exciting festival is the much loved Boat Festival, which is unparalleled.
This year’s Boat Festival is even more awaited than usual, as last year, we were unable to celebrate it due to the sudden and unexpected lockdown caused by the Corona Virus outbreak.
But this year, to the great bliss and satisfaction of all the devotees, the Boat Festival will be celebrated on the 6th of April, when our Lordships Sri Sri Radha Shyamsundar, along with Srimati Lalita devi and Vishakha devi, will come from the altar and ascend their beautifully painted and decorated boat, floating atop the waters in the courtyard of our Iskcon Krishna Balaram Mandir, Vrindavan.
It is for this most special occasion only that the entire courtyard of the temple room is filled with water, which is then covered with artistically placed flower petals. The intricately painted boat carrying Their Lordships will then glide through that decorated water, as onlooking devotees blissfully sing the Mahamantra with great enthusiasm. Showers of flowers will be gently sprinkled on Them from above, as if offered by the denizens of heaven.
On the Bhoga tables either side of the courtyard, delicious preparations lovingly prepared by Vaishnavis expert in the culinary art will be stacked high. Devotees shall wait there for Rasraja Sri Shyamaundar and his most beloved Raseshwari Srimati Radhika to come and accept those offerings. The Pujaris shall then offer arati to their Lordships while the assembled devotees offer the ghee of their devotion through the lamps of their eyes.
The ecstasy of this festival in Sri Sri Krishna Balaram Mandir knows no bounds and already the excitement has permeated the air. We would therefore like to invite one and all to come and take darshan of this most spectacular festival, which will be celebrated on Tuesday, the 6th of April. For those who are unable to be present physically, it will be live telecasted on our youtube channel, Website, Facebook Page and Tata Sky channel. In this way, you may be able to participate in spirit in all the festivities.
